Pantoprazole belongs to the family of medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Proton pump inhibitors are used to treat conditions such as stomach ulcers, intestinal ulcers, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, reflux esophagitis) by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces.
